Ecology Surveys for Planning Permission
The role we play in planning is fundamental, particularly as our reporting from the ecological services we carry out directly impacts the judgements of a local planning authority when it comes to deciding whether to approve or reject an application for planning permission.
Certain legal parameters restrict harm from coming to species of animals and plants that are considered rare. Within active legislation, various wildlife species are listed as protected, making it a crime for anyone to harm them, their habitat or the surrounding natural environment, even if it conflicts with your development plans.
An ecology survey will give you the tools you need to navigate your way through the planning process. You will then be given an ecology report after the assessment, and within it, you will find comprehensive information about your development site, the presence of ecological assets, any recommendations for further inspections, and details of what you need to do to meet the planning requirements and successfully secure planning consent from the corresponding local authorities.
An Introduction to Midland Ecology
In operation since 2011, Midland Ecology provides a wide range of ecological consultancy services in respect to planning and development, with a primary focus on covering the Midlands area.
Our team contains professionally qualified surveyors, licensed ecologists and specialised administrative support staff, giving us the foundations to offer adequate habitat management and land management during the planning process in any development projects we are instructed to work on.
From start to finish, we approach each and every client with the same combination of speed and quality, and once all ecological aspects have been catered to, we will produce an ecology report that can be submitted to your local authority to bolster your planning application, directly helping you to progress.

Examples of past surveys we’ve undertaken for clients could, for instance, include a great crested newt survey on a nearby pond for a new build, an inspection of barn owl populations on historic buildings within the boundary line during simple renovation works, and any number of bat or bird surveys to ensure that no species or roosts are disrupted over the course of a loft conversion.
Our work can span to developments of any size and scale, and at any point that we are instructed to work on behalf of a client, we pride ourselves on demonstrating the same level of attention to detail and quality in our work, leaving no difference in our approach between any developments that are small, private and led by an independent homeowner and any that are large, professional and led by a commercial developer.
